Neste and OK Slurink supply Neste MY Renewable Diesel to Scylla for their river cruise ships in the Netherlands
June 2024 – In a partnership aimed at promoting the sustainability of river cruises, Neste and OK Slurink, a subsidiary of Catom B.V. and specialist in bunkering services, have joined forces with Scylla, a provider of river cruises, to supply Neste MY Renewable Diesel for Scylla’s river cruise operations in the Netherlands. The cooperation, started in February 2024, is a great step in making inland navigation, especially the river cruise industry, more sustainable.
OK Slurink will equip Scylla’s 39 river cruise vessels with Neste MY Renewable Diesel. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a renewable diesel and a readily available solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Made from 100% renewable resources, using Neste MY Renewable Diesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%* over the fuel’s life cycle compared to using fossil diesel.
“Neste MY Renewable Diesel is an effective and readily available solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Its production based on 100% renewable resources aligns with our commitment to sustainability and makes it an important solution for making river cruising more sustainable,” said Marc Wouters, Sales Manager in Neste’s Renewable Products business unit.
This collaboration also aligns with the immediate need for more sustainable solutions in the river cruise industry. Because Neste MY Renewable Diesel has a similar chemical composition to fossil diesel, it can be used directly in all ships with diesel engines without the need for investments or modifications to engines or the fuel distribution infrastructure.
“The cooperation with Neste and Scylla enables us to make significant strides in our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The availability of Neste MY Renewable Diesel for river cruises in the Netherlands is a game-changer, in line with our sustainability goals,” said Alwin Slurink of OK Slurink.
Scylla, with a fleet of 39 ships, recognizes the importance of more sustainable solutions in the river cruise industry. Robert Reitsma of Scylla says, “By integrating Neste MY Renewable Diesel into our river cruise operations, we are contributing to a more sustainable future. The partnership with Neste and OK Slurink illustrates the joint commitment to reduce ourcarbon footprint in the Netherlands.”
This collaboration is a perfect example of how the river cruise industry can use more sustainable alternatives. The use of Neste MY Renewable Diesel not only improves the environmental performance of river cruises, but also demonstrates the feasibility of seamlessly integrating more sustainable solutions.
The joint effort by Neste, OK Slurink and Scylla sends a clear message to the industry and encourages a rapid and comprehensive shift to more sustainable river cruising in the Netherlands and abroad.
*) Greenhouse gas emission reduction depends on region-specific regulations that determine the methodology for calculations (such as EU RED II 2018/2001/EU in Europe and US California LCFS for the US), and the feedstock mix used to produce the product for each market
